Description of Key Hydration Electrolytes

Short summary

PureKey Key Hydration is an electrolyte powder with sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium to support hydration and replenish minerals lost through sweating. It is intended for athletes, active individuals and anyone who wants to maintain proper hydration during exercise, in hot weather or during increased physical exertion. One dose contains a high proportion of sodium, a key electrolyte for replacing losses through sweat.

How to use

Mix 1 scoop (4.5 g) with 500 ml of water and consume throughout the day. If using sachets, mix 1 sachet with 600 ml of water. The electrolyte drink makes the most sense during significant fluid and mineral losses, as it best supports hydration and electrolyte replenishment at such times.

Pros and Cons

Contains four key electrolytes: sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium
High sodium content for effective replacement of sweat losses
Supports hydration during physical activity
Magnesium is in the form of magnesium malate, considered a well-bioavailable form
Sugar-free
Suitable for daily use when electrolyte needs are increased
Contains no carbohydrates, so it doesn't provide an additional energy source during long endurance training
Magnesium content (30 mg) is relatively low and not comparable to standalone magnesium supplements
Contains the sweetener sucralose, which doesn't suit some users
May not be necessary for daily use for individuals with low electrolyte losses

Suitable for

Athletes and recreational exercisers
Runners, cyclists and other endurance athletes
Individuals who sweat heavily
People training in hot weather
Individuals looking to support hydration and electrolyte replenishment
No, one dose of Key Hydration contains only 30 mg of magnesium, which is well below the recommended daily intake (the RDA for magnesium is approximately 300-400 mg, with some sources suggesting athletes may need 10-20% more; Tarsitano et al., 2024). The product is designed primarily as a source of sodium and other electrolytes for hydration during exercise, while magnesium is added only as a supplementary ingredient in a smaller amount. If you want to specifically supplement magnesium, it makes sense to choose a dedicated magnesium supplement with a higher dose in a well-absorbed form, such as citrate or bisglycinate.
For endurance activities, Key Hydration is a sensible choice, as it contains 555 mg of sodium per dose, which is at the upper end or above the range experts recommend for replacing sweat losses during exercise lasting longer than 60-90 minutes (approximately 500-700 mg Na/L; Pérez-Castillo et al., 2024). For very long efforts or heavy sweating, you can adjust the dose based on your own fluid losses. Since the product contains no carbohydrates, it does not replace energy sports drinks during very long endurance events, so combine it with another energy source if needed.
For elevated blood pressure, we advise against deciding on your own to use products with a high sodium content without consulting a doctor. Key Hydration contains 555 mg of sodium per dose, which is a relatively high dose, and there is no explicit warning on the label for people with hypertension or those on diuretics or heart medications. Since sodium affects fluid retention and can influence blood pressure in sensitive individuals, we recommend consulting a doctor familiar with your medical history before regular consumption.
The data available to AdvancedU for this product does not disclose information about independent laboratory testing (e.g., for heavy metals or microbiological purity), which is not unusual for this category of products – across the entire group of electrolyte supplements, only a minority of products have publicly disclosed independent testing. This doesn't necessarily mean the product is unsafe, as manufacturers follow basic GMP manufacturing standards, but it does mean the user doesn't have access to additional, independent assurance of batch purity. If disclosed testing is an important criterion for you, you can check this directly with the manufacturer, Purekey Nutrition.
May contain traces of milk, fish, eggs, crustaceans, oats, barley, wheat and soy.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose
People with kidney disease or those who need to limit their sodium intake should consult a healthcare professional before use
Due to the high sodium content (555 mg per dose), people with high blood pressure or those taking diuretics or heart medications are advised to consult a doctor before use
