The combination of acesulfame K and sucralose is commonly used in the food industry because the two sweeteners have somewhat different sweetness profiles and, together, can achieve a more balanced taste than either would alone. At typical doses used in supplements, both sweeteners are considered safe for the general population, although in individuals with a very sensitive digestive tract, artificial sweeteners – even in combination – may contribute to bloating or mild digestive discomfort. If you are sensitive to this type of sweetener, it makes sense to try the product first in a smaller amount or to choose a product with natural sweeteners or none at all.
This product is based exclusively on whey protein concentrate (WPC), which is a simple and well-researched form, but compared to isolate it contains somewhat more lactose and fat and has a lower DIAAS (Herreman et al., 2020). Products that combine concentrate with isolate or hydrolysate therefore theoretically have a slightly better purity and absorption profile. In practice, for a healthy adult user without a pronounced lactose intolerance, this makes no significant difference to the effect on muscle protein synthesis, since both forms are still a high-quality source of essential amino acids (Jäger et al., 2017).
Whey protein at typical doses is considered safe for healthy adults – systematic reviews have found no convincing evidence of harmful effects on the kidneys or liver in healthy individuals, even at protein intakes above the recommended daily allowance (Devries et al., 2018; Vasconcelos et al., 2020). The absence of publicly available independent lab testing for this specific product means you have no direct insight into the possible presence of heavy metals or other contaminants in this particular batch, which is a matter of transparency rather than necessarily proof of danger. If you have kidney disease or another chronic condition, be sure to consult a doctor before regularly consuming protein supplements.
The difference comes from the powder's composition – this product contains 96% instant whey protein concentrate plus flavorings, salt, thickener and sweeteners, whereas some competitors with 23 g per scoop either have a higher proportion of active protein ingredient or added protein sources such as isolate. 21 g per 30-gram scoop is still within the generally recommended range of 20–40 g per meal for stimulating muscle protein synthesis (Jäger et al., 2017), though at the lower end of it. To reach your overall daily protein target, you can simply compensate for this difference with a slightly larger scoop or an additional protein-rich meal.
Milk, soy, eggs, gluten, peanuts, nuts, celery, fish, crustaceans, sulphur dioxide
Not suitable for vegans, as the protein is derived from cow's milk.
In individuals with lactose intolerance, whey concentrate may cause digestive disturbances and discomfort.
The added artificial sweeteners (acesulfame K and sucralose) may cause mild bloating in people with a very sensitive gut.
