How to use

Take 1 softgel capsule daily, with a meal, which improves the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamin D3 (Dawson-Hughes et al., 2015).

Pros and Cons

Contributes to the maintenance of normal blood calcium and phosphorus levels and normal absorption of both minerals
Contributes to the maintenance and development of healthy bones and teeth
Supports the normal function of the immune system
Maintains normal muscle function
Gluten-free
The 4000 IU dose is at the upper safe limit (UL) for daily standalone supplementation in adults (NIH ODS, 2024; EFSA, 2023), so it is not intended for uncritical long-term use without monitoring
No independent laboratory testing
The capsule contains gelatin, so it is not suitable for vegans

Suitable for

Individuals with a confirmed (by laboratory test) vitamin D deficiency, after consulting a doctor
Adults who prefer to take a single higher dose once daily instead of several smaller capsules
Vegetarians (the capsule contains gelatin, so it is not suitable for vegans)
4000 IU is at the same time the upper safe limit (UL) for standalone daily supplementation in adults according to NIH ODS (2024) and EFSA (2023), meaning it falls within the officially recognized safe limit. However, a meta-analysis of long-term clinical studies found approximately a 2.2-fold increase in the relative risk of hypercalcemia at daily intakes between 3200 and 4000 IU, although the absolute risk is small (Zittermann et al., 2023). Therefore, for use lasting several months, we recommend regular monitoring of blood vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and consulting a doctor, especially if you have risk factors such as kidney disease or sarcoidosis.
A higher dose is not automatically the better choice if you don't have a diagnosed deficiency. 2000 IU is sufficient to maintain vitamin D status in most people without a pronounced deficiency, while 4000 IU is more commonly used for confirmed, more severe deficiency or increased needs, at a doctor's discretion. We recommend checking your vitamin D level with a blood test (25(OH)D) and determining the appropriate dose together with your doctor based on the results, rather than deciding solely based on the IU number on the packaging (NIH ODS, 2024).
The manufacturer explicitly states on the label that pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use, which we also recommend. Vitamin D needs and safe doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding may differ from general recommendations for adults, and your doctor is also familiar with your overall health condition and any supplements you may already be taking. As with all supplements, AdvancedU does not provide medical advice for this product, but instead directs you toward professional judgment.
Yes, the softgel capsule shell is made from gelatin, which is of animal origin (often derived from skin or bones), which is why the product is not suitable for vegans. It carries a vegetarian-suitability label because gelatin is not meat, although it is still an animal product - some strict vegetarians therefore still exclude it from their diet. If you need a strictly vegan vitamin D3, look for products in our range with a capsule based on hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) or a plant-based shell without gelatin.
No major allergens listed.
The recommended daily amount or dose must not be exceeded
Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use
With prolonged daily use (several months), it is advisable to monitor blood vitamin D levels, as a daily intake of 4000 IU over an extended period is associated with a slightly increased risk of elevated blood calcium (Zittermann et al., 2023)
