Description of ZM6A

Short summary

ZM6A is a dietary supplement from the ZMA-type product category, combining zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6. The name suggests a connection to the classic ZMA formula, so it is most likely a combination that follows the original ratio of ingredients, intended primarily to support sleep and recovery, rather than a proven testosterone booster.

How to use

Take the recommended daily amount in the evening, on an empty stomach, approximately 30-60 minutes before bedtime and separately from meals or supplements rich in calcium, as calcium can reduce the absorption of zinc and magnesium. Take with a glass of water. If you are unsure about dosing, consult a pharmacist.

Pros and Cons

Follows the established, clinically studied ratio of ingredients from the classic ZMA formula
One product instead of three separate supplements simplifies the daily routine
Simple, clearly focused purpose (sleep/recovery) without unnecessary additional ingredients
The aspartate forms of zinc and magnesium, characteristic of the classic ZMA formula, do not have as well-documented bioavailability as newer chelates (e.g. bisglycinate)
Independent research has not confirmed claims of a significant increase in testosterone or strength for this type of product (Wilborn et al., 2004)
Less public information is available about the brand and independent testing compared to more established competitors in this category

Suitable for

Athletes looking for a product modeled on the classic ZMA formula for evening use
People who want to cover their basic needs for zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6 with a single product
People with slightly increased needs for these minerals due to intense physical activity
No, and this also applies to the original ZMA formula. The original claim of an approximately 30% increase in testosterone comes from a study conducted by the developers and patent owners of this formula, i.e. a party with a financial interest. When independent researchers tested the same combination on 42 trained men in an 8-week study, they found no statistically significant differences in testosterone, growth hormone, IGF-1, cortisol or strength compared to placebo (Wilborn et al., 2004). Zinc and magnesium do have a legitimate role in metabolism and general health, but not as testosterone boosters.
The classic ZMA formula uses zinc monomethionine aspartate and magnesium aspartate - both forms have been specifically clinically tested for sleep and post-workout recovery, but have less documented general bioavailability than newer chelated forms, such as zinc or magnesium bisglycinate, which achieve up to approximately 43% better absorption compared to some other forms of zinc (Devarshi et al., 2024). This does not mean the aspartate form doesn't work, but rather that it is a slightly less optimal choice for general mineral supplementation.
At the standard doses found in products of this type, long-term use is generally safe for healthy adults, provided you do not exceed the recommended daily dose. The upper safe limit for zinc is 40 mg per day, and chronically exceeding it can interfere with copper absorption (NCBI Bookshelf, DRI Zinc). With magnesium, higher doses can have a mild laxative effect, and in cases of kidney disease there is a risk of accumulation, so consult a doctor before use in that case. Also be careful if you are simultaneously taking other supplements containing the same minerals.
Some newer studies suggest that supplementing with the classic ZMA formula after sleep deprivation can improve subjective sleep quality and morning readiness in athletes (Larsen et al., 2024). Magnesium generally plays a role in regulating the nervous system, which is linked to relaxation and sleep quality (2024, PMC11136869). The effects observed in studies are relatively small and vary between individuals, so the product should not be expected to replace good sleep hygiene, but rather to serve at most as mild supplementary support.
No major allergens declared.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, consult a doctor before use.
People with kidney disease should consult a doctor before use due to the risk of magnesium accumulation.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose and pay attention to the total intake of zinc, magnesium and vitamin B6 from all sources, including other supplements.
