Description of Tri-Magnesium Capsules

Short summary

Tri-Magnesium Capsules (Myprotein) combine three well-absorbed forms of magnesium (bisglycinate, malate and taurate) together with vitamin B6 and vitamin D3. The daily dose (3 capsules) provides approximately 250 mg of elemental magnesium, corresponding to around 67% of the recommended daily intake, and supports muscle and nerve function, bone health and everyday energy levels.

How to use

Take 3 capsules daily with plenty of water. The capsules can be taken with or after a meal. For easier digestion, you can split them throughout the day (e.g. with meals); for more energy, take them in the morning or before a workout, and in the evening for relaxation and sleep.

Pros and Cons

Three clinically well-absorbed forms of magnesium (bisglycinate, malate, taurate), free of magnesium oxide
Precisely stated mg amount for each form of magnesium individually (150 mg bisglycinate, 50 mg malate, 50 mg taurate)
Added vitamins B6 and D3, which support normal function of the nervous and immune systems
Supports muscle and nerve function as well as everyday energy levels
The total dose of elemental magnesium (~250 mg) covers only around 67% of the recommended daily intake, which is lower than the dose in other products in this category
Contains several different active ingredients (magnesium, B6, D3), so it may not be the best choice for those looking for a product with magnesium alone
No information on independent laboratory testing

Suitable for

Athletes and recreational exercisers
People with high physical or mental strain
Individuals wanting to support muscle and nerve function
People dealing with fatigue and low energy levels
This product deliberately bets on quality rather than just quantity - it uses exclusively well-absorbed organic forms of magnesium (bisglycinate, malate, taurate), which are more expensive to produce than magnesium oxide, so the manufacturer chose a lower total dose (~250 mg elemental magnesium, around 67% of the recommended intake) at the same price. Because these forms are absorbed significantly better than oxide, which other triple formulas often use to boost the apparent mg value on the label (Blancquaert et al., 2019), the actual difference in bioavailable magnesium between products is smaller than the label figure alone would suggest.
It's possible. A randomized, placebo-controlled study using 250 mg of elemental magnesium in bisglycinate form daily for 4 weeks showed a significant improvement in self-reported sleep quality in adults who reported poorer sleep (AdvancedU Magnesium Deep Dive, PMC12412596, 2025). This product contains 150 mg of magnesium from bisglycinate (out of a total of 250 mg), which is close to the studied dose, though not identical. The effect on sleep is individual and typically appears only after several weeks of regular use - it is not an immediate sleep aid.
Vitamin B6 contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system and protein metabolism, while vitamin D3 contributes to normal functioning of the immune system and the maintenance of healthy bones - both are commonly added to magnesium formulas as supporting nutrients. However, it's important to understand that this is a supplement, not a replacement for a balanced diet: 400 IU (10 micrograms) of vitamin D3 is a moderate dose that contributes significantly to daily intake, but may not be sufficient for people with a confirmed vitamin D deficiency. If you are taking other supplements containing vitamin D, check your total daily intake so as not to exceed the safe upper limit.
Magnesium can affect the absorption and action of certain medications - including diuretics, which can increase magnesium loss, and certain antibiotics, which are recommended to be taken at least two hours apart (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, 2023). This product's label explicitly advises that people taking medication or with health conditions consult a doctor or pharmacist before use - this recommendation also applies to blood pressure medications, as magnesium in high doses can slightly lower blood pressure. Do not adjust your medication dosages on your own based on a dietary supplement.
May contain traces of milk.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose
Not recommended for children, pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers
People taking medication or with health conditions should consult a doctor before use
