Instructions

1
Pour just the oat flakes (and flaxseeds, if using) into a dry blender. Blend at high speed for 10-15 seconds to get a fine powder. This prevents the smoothie from becoming grainy or "gritty".
2
Add the milk, Greek yogurt, honey and vanilla to the ground oats. Pulse briefly to let the oats soak.
3
Add the banana and frozen strawberries. Blend at high speed for 45-60 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, add another spoonful of milk.
4
Pour immediately into a tall glass. Garnish with a fresh strawberry or a few mint leaves, if desired.

Nutritional benefits

Thanks to the combination of complex carbohydrates from oats and protein from Greek yogurt, this smoothie provides long-lasting release of energy without a rapid blood sugar crash.
